crawlSS_052_food.txt: Food and satiation Based on Crawl Stone Soup 0.5.2 Last change: 2010-01-10 by E. Grasland (use a fixed-width font like Courier to display the tables correctly) Satiation ~~~~~~~~~ Satiation varies between 0 and 12000; you start the game at 6000 points. The limits for the differents satiation states are: Starving : 0 - 1000 Near Starving: 1001 - 1533 Very Hungry : 1534 - 2066 Hungry : 2067 - 2600 Satiated : 2601 - 7000 Full : 7001 - 9000 Very Full : 9001 - 11000 Engorged : 11001 - 12000 Mummies don't need food. All other characters can't exceed 12000 points of statiation (if you should, your satiation stays at 12000), except Ghouls, who can't exceed 6999 points of satiation. Vampires' satiation can't get lower than 701. Hunger Rate =========== Every turn, a certain amount is substracted from your satiation, depending of many parameters: Base: 3 (enchantments) +4 regenerating +5 invisible +5 fast; not from berserking +2 encumbered +5 overloaded (mutations) +1 fast metabolism mutation level 1 +2 fast metabolism mutation level 2 +3 fast metabolism mutation level 3 -1 slow metabolism mutation level 1 or 2 -2 slow metabolism mutation level 3 (items) +2 per worn ring of regeneration +4 per worn ring of hunger -2 per worn ring of sustenance +6 if wielding a sword of vampiricism (reduced to +1 if you're a Vampire) +9 if wielding the Vampire's Tooth (reduced to +2 if you're a Vampire) +1 if wearing a troll leather armour (except for Trolls) +1 per artifact giving fast metabolism (race specifics, including intrinsic fast/slow metabolism) +6 Troll (including the +3 for intrinsic fast metabolism level 3) +2 Centaur (intrinsic fast metabolism level 2) +1 Ogre (intrinsic fast metabolism level 1) -1 Halfling (intrinsic slow metabolism level 1) -2 Spriggan (intrinsic slow metabolism level 3) +3 Vampire (alive) +2 " (very full) +1 " (full) -1 " (thirsty) -2 " (very thirsty) -3 " (bloodless/near bloodless) In any case, hunger rate can't be lower than 1. Vampires in bat form have a hunger rate of 1. Other sources of hunger ======================= Normal food consumption isn't the only way to decrease satiation: fighting, using abilities or using spells often makes you hungry by a certain amount. * Fighting Doing a regular melee attack makes you consume an additionnal 3 points of satiation; this cost is 2 for an auxiliary unarmed attack (with horns, tail...). Ending a berserk phase decreases your satiation level by 700 (be careful!). Note that Vampires not being able to berserk (Satiated or less) and drinking a potion of berserk rage will lose 100 satiation right away. Being damaged by a Hungry Ghost has a 50% chance of decreasing you satiation by 400; if it hits you but does no damage, it still has a 5% chance of decreasing your satiation by 400. * Spellcasting Casting a spell decrease your satiation level by an amount depending on its level, your intelligence and your Spellcasting skill, unless you're wielding a staff of energy (in which case casting spells will never increase your hunger). The base cost is given by the spell level: +--------------------+-----+-----+-----+-----+-----+-----+-----+-----+-----+ |Level | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 | 8 | 9 | +--------------------+-----+-----+-----+-----+-----+-----+-----+-----+-----+ |Base satiation cost | 50 | 95 | 160 | 250 | 350 | 550 | 700 | 850 |1000 | +--------------------+-----+-----+-----+-----+-----+-----+-----+-----+-----+ This amount is then reduced by your intelligence multiplied by your Spellcasting skill. Vampires then halve this amount if they are hungry or very hungry, or reduce it to 0 if they are starving or near starving. The spell screen ('I' then 'I' again) gives an hint at the amount of satiation that each spell you know will cost you: None : 0 Grape : 1 - 24 Apple : 25 - 149 Choko : 150 - 499 Ration: 500+ * Abilities Several intrinsic abilities have a food cost. This cost is random in the following range, with a biais toward average value: +---------------------+-----------+ |Intrinsic Ability | Cost | +---------------------+-----------+ |Blink | 51 - 100 | |Bolt of Draining | 101 - 200 | |Breathe Fire | 126 - 250 | |Breathe Frost | 126 - 250 | |Breathe Poison Gas | 126 - 250 | |Breathe Lightning | 126 - 250 | |Breathe Power | 126 - 250 | |Breathe Sticky Flame | 126 - 250 | |Breathe Steam | 126 - 250 | |Channeling | 31 - 60 | |Control Demon | 101 - 200 | |Fly (Kenku) | 101 - 200 | |Fly (Draconian) | 26 - 50 | |Hellfire | 201 - 400 | |Invisibility | 251 - 500 | |Levitate | 101 - 200 | |Raise Dead | 151 - 300 | |Sense Surroundings | 31 - 60 | |Spit Acid | 126 - 250 | |Spit Poison | 41 - 80 | |Summon Minor Demon | 76 - 150 | |Summon Demon | 151 - 300 | |Teleportation | 201 - 400 | |Throw Flame | 51 - 100 | |Throw Frost | 51 - 100 | |Torment | 251 - 500 | +---------------------+-----------+ N.B. : Evoking an ability from an item has the same satiation cost as if it was intrinsic. +---------------+---------------------------+------------+ | God |God-given Ability | Cost | +---------------+---------------------------+------------+ |Zin |Recite | 121 - 240 | |Zin |Vitalisation | 101 - 200 | |Zin |Sancturary | 151 - 300 | +---------------+---------------------------+------------+ |The Shining One|Divine Shield | 51 - 100 | |The Shining One|Cleansing Flame | 101 - 200 | |The Shining One|Summon Divine Warrior | 151 - 300 | +---------------+---------------------------+------------+ |Kikubaaqudgha |Recall Undead Slaves | 51 - 100 | |Kikubaaqudgha |Enslave Undead | 151 - 300 | |Kikubaaqudgha |Invoke Death | 251 - 500 | +---------------+---------------------------+------------+ |Yredelemnul |Animate Remains | 101 - 200 | |Yredelemnul |Recall Undead Slaves | 51 - 100 | |Yredelemnul |Animate Dead | 101 - 200 | |Yredelemnul |Drain Life | 201 - 400 | |Yredelemnul |Enslave Soul | 151 - 300 | +---------------+---------------------------+------------+ |Okawaru |Might | 51 - 100 | |Okawaru |Haste | 101 - 200 | +---------------+---------------------------+------------+ |Makhleb |Minor Destruction | 21 - 40 | |Makhleb |Lesser Servant of Makhleb | 51 - 100 | |Makhleb |Major Destruction | 101 - 200 | |Makhleb |Greater Servant of Makhleb | 101 - 200 | +---------------+---------------------------+------------+ |Sif Muna |Channel Energy | 101 - 200 | +---------------+---------------------------+------------+ |Trog |Burn Spellbooks | 11 - 20 | |Trog |Berserk | 201 - 400 | |Trog |Trog's Hand | 51 - 100 | |Trog |Brothers in Arms | 101 - 200 | +---------------+---------------------------+------------+ |Elyvilon |Lesser Self-Healing | 101 - 200 | |Elyvilon |Lesser Healing | 101 - 200 | |Elyvilon |Purification | 151 - 300 | |Elyvilon |Greater Self-Healing | 251 - 500 | |Elyvilon |Greater Healing | 251 - 500 | |Elyvilon |Restoration | 401 - 800 | |Elyvilon |Divine Vigour | 601 - 1200 | +---------------+---------------------------+------------+ |Lugonu |Depart the Abyss | 151 - 300 | |Lugonu |Bend Space | 51 - 100 | |Lugonu |Banish | 201 - 400 | |Lugonu |Corrupt | 501 - 1000 | |Lugonu |Enter the Abyss | 501 - 1000 | +---------------+---------------------------+------------+ |Nemelex Xobeh |Triple Draw | 101 - 200 | |Nemelex Xobeh |Mark Four | 126 - 250 | |Nemelex Xobeh |Stack Five | 251 - 500 | +---------------+---------------------------+------------+ |Beogh |Smiting | 81 - 160 | |Beogh |Recall Orcish Followers | 51 - 100 | +---------------+---------------------------+------------+ You can't use an ability that might reduce you satiation level under 150. * Misc Drawing the "Famine" card (Deck of Oddities or Punishment) will set your Hunger state at 500 (Starving). Effect of Satiation =================== If you're at level "Satiated" or more, you get no special bonus or malus, although at level "Engorged", you can't eat anything, with no other special penalties. Vampires with the appropriate level can't turn into a bat when satiated or more; if they already are in bat form when reaching Satiated or more, they will automatically turn back to their normal form under a few turns (be careful if you were flying over deep water or lava!). At level "Hungry" or lower, non-chunk lovers (see below) are allowed to eat chunks. You can't turn berserk (except through the "Berserk Rage" spell, if not starving) or invisible until you reach "Satiated" again. At level "Starving", you get a -3 penalty to hit when fighting, and the damage you inflict are reduced by (1d5-1). You can't cast or use most spells and abilities, too. If you are under 500 points of satiation, there's 1/40 chance that you starve, which result in losing consciousness for 1d8 + 5 turns. If you fall under 100 points, you die of starvation. You can't use abilities when you're starving, even those that are not consuming food, except a few (Renounce Religion, Stop Levitating, Turn Visible, End Transformation, Release Delayed Fireball, Mummy's Restoration, Bat Transformation). All these penalties do apply to Vampires (except the to hit penalty on non-unarmed attacks). Chunks and rations (meat or bread) require several turns to be eaten (2 and 3 respectively), so you may want to keep other quick snacks (all other types of food require only 1 turn) in you inventory for emergencies. Eating ~~~~~~ There are several ways to restore satiation. The one you'll probably use the most (except if you're a Vampire) is eating chunks of meat from monsters you've killed; other ways include eating food, drinking potions and a few others. Vampires cannot eat and drink blood from corpses or potions instead. Chunks ====== In order to get chunks from monsters, you need a sharp weapon in hand (sword and axes) - be careful not to be stuck with a cursed non-sharp weapon in hand! Characters with claws (from a mutation - Troll have intrinsic claws -, from transformation into a Dragon, or from the spell Blade Hands) don't need a sharp weapon to butcher corpses if they don't wear gloves. * Chunks types Depending on the monster you got the chunks from, it may be unsafe to eat it. Fortunately, you can tell the type of chunk by its color: +-------------+----------+-----------------------+------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------+ |Chunk type |Color |Generated by |Effect when eaten | +-------------+----------+-----------------------+------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------+ |Clean |white |Animals mostly |No harmful side effect. Your satiation increases (by 1000 in normal conditions; see below). | | | | |Ghouls have a 80% chance of being healed (1d5 - 1) + 1d(level) where level is your experience | | | | |level, and a 67% chance of restoring 1 rotted HP. | +-------------+----------+-----------------------+------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------+ |Rotten |lightgray |Clean or contaminated |Hill Orcs and Ogres eating a rotten chunk have a 80% chance to get the effect of a clean chunk; | | | |chunks after 200 turns |this percentage is increased to 93% for Trolls and Kobolds. Other characters (except Ghouls) | | | | |never get the effect of a clean chunk. | | | | |If you don't get the effect of a clean chunk, you don't get any nutrition, you become sick for | | | | |49 + 1d100 (more) turns. While sick, your HP is not naturally restored and there's a small | | | | |chance each turn that your stats will temporarily decrease. | | | | |Ghouls do not suffer any negative effect, and instead heal (1d5 - 1) + 1d(level) where level is | | | | |your experience level, have a 80% chance to unrot 1 HP and a 20% chance to restore 1 point of | | | | |Strength - you may want to wait until your chunks are rotten to eat them if you're a Ghoul. | +-------------+----------+-----------------------+------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------+ |Contaminated |brown |Humanoids mostly |67% chance of being treated like a clean chunk. This percentage increases to 93% for Hill Orcs | | | | |and Ogres, to 98% for Trolls and Kobolds and 100% for Ghouls. | | | | |If this test fails, you get the effect of a rotten chunk. | +-------------+----------+-----------------------+------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------+ |Poisonous |green |Poisonous monsters |If you're resistant to poison, you get the effect of a clean chunk (note that the chunk will be | | | |mostly |displayed in white and not green if that's the case). | | | | |Otherwise, you don't get any nutrition, and you're poisoned for several turns. | +-------------+----------+-----------------------+------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------+ |Mutagen |purple |Few "aberrations" |You don't get any nutrition. You gain a random mutation. | | | |(Eyes of Draining, |After 200 turns, those chunks will rot in a special way and will only give you a bad mutation | | | |Shapeshifters, Very |if you eat them. | | | |Ugly things...) |Ghouls get the effect of a clean chunk instead (or a rotten one if it's rotten). | +-------------+----------+-----------------------+------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------+ |Rot-inducing |red |Necrophages and Ghouls |You don't get any nutrition. | | | | |You start to rot for several turns, which may reduce you max HP. | | | | |Ghouls get the effect of a clean chunk instead (or a rotten one if it's rotten). | +-------------+----------+-----------------------+------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------+ * Religious restrictions Several religions have special restrictions related to butchering and eating chunks. Elyvilon dislike when one of its followers butcher corpses while praying. If this happens, you lose 10 piety and gain 10 penance points. Zin, The Shining One, Elyvilon and Beogh dislike when one of their followers eat chunks from their own specie (cannibalism). If this happens, you lose 10 piety and gain 10 penance points. In addition, Zin dislike when its followers eat chunks from the corpses of souled beings - monsters with intelligence higher than animals. For "normal" intelligence monsters (#), you lose 5 piety. For "high" intelligence monsters (##), you lose 10 piety and gain 5 penance points. This is not cumulative with cannibalism. (#) "Normal" intelligence monsters are mostly humanoid or half-humanoid monsters (humans, orcs, giants, goblins, kobolds, centaurs/yaktaurs, nagas, ogres, trolls...) (##) "High" intelligence monsters leaving corpses are: - centaur warriors and yaktaurs captains - all draconians - all elves - orc sorcerers and high priests - guardian and greater nagas - (human) hell knights, necromancers and wizards - giant orange brains and great orb of eyes - shapeshifters and glowing shapeshifters - titans - serpents of Hell - sphinx - ogre-mages - killer klowns - several uniques: Nessos, Polyphemus, Antaeus, Tiamat and Nergalle. To prevent mistakes, chunks from "restricted" corpses are displayed in red. * Chunk lovers Most characters aren't "chunk-lovers" and thus can only eat chunks when hungry or worse. "Chunk lovers" fall under one of these categories: - Characters wearing an Amulet of the Gourmand - Characters with the carnivorous mutation at level 1 or more - Trolls Note that Ghouls and Kobolds are intrinsically carnivorous (level 3) and are thus chunk lovers. Fully herbivorous characters (with the herbivorous mutation at level 3, notably Spriggans) cannot eat chunks at all, even with an Amulet of the Gourmand. * Amulet of the Gourmand Wearing an Amulet of the Gourmand has two main effects: - You can eat chunks even if you're satiated or more - You can safely eat contaminated chunks (chunks displayed in brown). Ghouls get the effet of rotting chunks instead of clean chunks (since they prefer rotten meat). Note that you only get the full effect of the amulet after you wear if for a certain time (about 400 turns) - the nutrition received and chance to turn contaminated chunk into clean chunk grows while you wear it until that limit. You thus can't just switch from another amulet when you want eat a chunk. * Nutrition Chunks will normally increase you satiation by 1000. This amount may be reduced by two factors : - The Amulet of the Gourmand, before it has full effect (400 turns on average), if you eat while Satiated or more (you only get the fraction of the total amount corresponding to the fraction of the 200 turns you've worn the amulet). - Characters with the herbivorous mutation at level 1 only get 80% of the total nutrition, those with the mutation at level 2 only get 64% of the total nutrition (you can't eat chunks at all at level 3). Note that carnivorous characters do not get a nutrition bonus from chunks. Regular food ============ If you're short on chunks (or if you can't eat them), you'll probably rely on regular food to restore you satiation. Regular food can be randomly found on the ground while exploring; a large quantity of honeycombs and royal jelly can be found at the bottom of the Hive. Regular food can be either Meat, Vegetarian or Unrestricted. Characters with one or more levels of carnivorous mutation get a nutrition bonus in Meat food and a nutrition malus in Vegetarian food (level 3 carnivorous characters cannot eat Vegetarian food at all), while characters with one or more levels of herbivorous mutation get a nutrition bonus in Vegetarian food and a nutrition malus in Meat food (level 3 herbivorous characters cannot eat Meat food at all). Note that Ghouls and Kobolds have an intrinsic level 3 carnivorous mutation, while Spriggans have an intrinsic level 3 herbivorous mutation. Eating a royal jelly will restore you stats if they are under they maximum level (like a potion of restore abilities), in addition to increase your satiation; other types of food will have no other effect than increasing your satiation. Food values and modifiers for mutated characters are displayed below (sorted by nutrition/mass ratio; you may want to carry those with the highest ratio). +-----------------------+--------+----------+---------------+---------------+---------------+ |Name |Type of |Base |Modifier for |Modifier per |Nutrition/mass | | |food(*) |nutrition |carnivorous(#) |herbivorous(#) |ratio(&) | +-----------------------+--------+----------+---------------+---------------+---------------+ |royal jelly | U | 5000 | | | 91 | |honeycomb | U | 2000 | | | 50 | |slice of pizza | U | 1500 | | | 38 | |cheese | U | 1200 | | | 30 | +-----------------------+--------+----------+---------------+---------------+---------------+ |beef jerky | M | 1500 | 200 | - 200 | 75 | |meat ration | M | 5000 | 500 | -1500 | 63 | |sausage | M | 1200 | 200 | - 200 | 30 | +-----------------------+--------+----------+---------------+---------------+---------------+ |sultana | V | 70 | - 20 | 20 | 70 | |rambutan | V | 600 | - 200 | 200 | 60 | |lychee | V | 600 | - 200 | 200 | 60 | |bread ration | V | 4400 | -1000 | 500 | 55 | |orange | V | 1000 | - 300 | 300 | 50 | |banana | V | 1000 | - 300 | 300 | 50 | |lemon | V | 1000 | - 300 | 300 | 50 | |grape | V | 100 | - 20 | 20 | 50 | |apricot | V | 700 | - 200 | 200 | 47 | |strawberry | V | 200 | - 50 | 50 | 40 | |pear | V | 700 | - 200 | 200 | 35 | |apple | V | 700 | - 200 | 200 | 35 | |snozzcumber | V | 1500 | - 200 | 200 | 30 | |choko | V | 600 | - 200 | 200 | 20 | +-----------------------+--------+----------+---------------+---------------+---------------+ (*) M=Meat; V=Vegetarian; U=Unrestricted (#) Cumulative per mutation level (&) For a non-mutated character Other sources of satiation ========================== * Potions All potions will increase your satiation (for non-Vampires) by 40 when drunk. In addition: Potions of blood (or coagulated blood) might increase your satiation by 200 more. It will always be the case if you're a "chunk lover" (see above) and not fully herbivorous; otherwise, it depends on your herbivorous mutation level (0% for level 3, 25% for level 2, 50% for level 1 and 75% for level 0). If this test fails, you get no more satiation (and get sick instead). Be careful that The Shining One, Zin and Elyvilon do not like when their followers drink blood (unless not knowingly). Potions of porridge will increase your satiation by 6000 more. Potions of water will increase your satiation by 20 more. * Religion If you're a follower of Zin (not under penance) and you're starving, praying will restore your hunger state at Satiated (6000 points). * Fountains Drinking at a blood fountain will increase your satiation as if you were drinking a potion of blood. Drinking at a water fountain has no effect and will not increase your satiation. Drinking at a sparkling fountain may increase your satiation if you get the effect from a potion of blood (or coagulated blood), porridge or water (see above). * Weapons of vampiricism Hitting a non-summoned living monster with a weapon of vampiricism (or the Vampire's Tooth) has a 80% chance to increase your satiation by a random amount between 1 and 59. * Cards Drawing the "Feast" card (Deck of Oddities) will set your Hunger state at 12000 (Engorged). Vampires ~~~~~~~~ Vampires handle food and satiation differently from other characters. Satiation level =============== Their satiation level of a Vampire has a deep impact on its hunger rate, its regeneration rate, its stealth and its intrinsic abilities. +---------------+------------+------------+---------+-----------------------------------+---------------------------------------------------------+ |Hunger state |Base hunger |Regen rate |Stealth |Intrinsic abilities |Other effects | | |rate |modifier(#) |factor(&)| | | +---------------+------------+------------+---------+-----------------------------------+---------------------------------------------------------+ |Bloodless | 1/turn(*) |No natural | 21 |Poison resistance |No spell hunger | | | |regeneration| |Level 2 cold resistance |Cannot rot | | | | | |Level 3 negative energy resistance |No stat recovery | | | | | |Torment resistance |+3 to hit on unarmed attacks | | | | | |Bat transformation (xp level > 2 ) |Cannot turn berserk | | | | | | |Mutations effects desactivated ($) | | | | | | |Cannot mutate(¤) | | | | | | |Spell restriction (§) | +---------------+------------+------------+---------+-----------------------------------+---------------------------------------------------------+ |Near Bloodless | 1/turn |Natural | 20 |Poison resistance |Spell hunger halved | | | |regeneration| |Level 2 cold resistance |Cannot rot | | | |halved | |Level 3 negative energy resistance |Stat recovery rate halved | | | | | |Bat transformation (xp level > 2 ) |+2 to hit on unarmed attacks | | | | | | |Cannot turn berserk | | | | | | |Mutations effects desactivated ($) | | | | | | |Cannot mutate(¤) | | | | | | |Spell restriction (§) | +---------------+------------+------------+---------+-----------------------------------+---------------------------------------------------------+ |Very Thirsty | 1/turn |Natural | 19 |Poison resistance |Spell hunger halved | | | |regeneration| |Level 1 cold resistance |Cannot rot | | | |halved | |Level 2 negative energy resistance |Stat recovery rate halved | | | | | |Bat transformation (xp level > 2 ) |+2 to hit on unarmed attacks | | | | | | |Cannot turn berserk | | | | | | |Mutations effects desactivated ($) | | | | | | |Cannot mutate(¤) | | | | | | |Spell restriction (§) | +---------------+------------+------------+---------+-----------------------------------+---------------------------------------------------------+ |Thirsty | 2/turn |Natural | 19 |Poison resistance |Spell hunger halved | | | |regeneration| |Level 1 cold resistance |Cannot rot | | | |halved | |Level 2 negative energy resistance |Stat recovery rate halved | | | | | |Bat transformation (xp level > 2 ) |+2 to hit on unarmed attacks | | | | | | |Cannot turn berserk | | | | | | |Mutations effects desactivated ($) | | | | | | |Cannot mutate(¤) | | | | | | |Spell restriction (§) | +---------------+------------+------------+---------+-----------------------------------+---------------------------------------------------------+ |Satiated | 3/turn | | 18 |Level 1 negative energy resistance |+1 to hit on unarmed attacks | | | | | | |Cannot turn berserk | | | | | | |Spell restriction (§) | | | | | | |Gaining a non-stat mutation will fail 100% of the time(¤)| | | | | | |Mutations effects are capped at level 1 | +---------------+------------+------------+---------+-----------------------------------+---------------------------------------------------------+ |Full | 4/turn | +1 HP | 18 | |+1 to hit on unarmed attacks | | | | / 10 turns | | |Effect of Dispel Undead spell on you multiplied by 2/3 | | | | | | |Gaining a non-stat mutation will fail 67% of the time(¤) | | | | | | |Mutations effects are capped at level 2 | +---------------+------------+------------+---------+-----------------------------------+---------------------------------------------------------+ |Very Full | 5/turn | +1 HP | 18 | |+1 to hit on unarmed attacks | | | | / 10 turns | | |Effect of Dispel Undead spell on you multiplied by 2/3 | | | | | | |Gaining a non-stat mutation will fail 33% of the time(¤) | | | | | | |Mutations effects are capped at level 2 | +---------------+------------+------------+---------+-----------------------------------+---------------------------------------------------------+ |Alive | 6/turn | +1 HP | 18 | |+1 to hit on unarmed attacks | | | | / 5 turns | | |Effect of Dispel Undead spell on you halved | +---------------+------------+------------+---------+-----------------------------------+---------------------------------------------------------+ (*) Hunger stopped when satiation level reach 701 or lower. (#) Base (normal) regeneration is HP_max/300 HP per turn. (&) Stealth factor is multiplied by your Stealth skill to get Stealth; for reference, Stealth factor is 9 for Trolls, 15 for Humans (and most species) and 18 for Nagas. ($) Innate mutations (See Invisible...) are always active, even under Satiated, as well as stat mutations (gain/lose strength/dexterity/intelligence), armour mutations (scales, etc.) and physical mutations (horns, claws, etc.) (¤) If the mutation fails, there's a 50% chance to (temporary) lose 1 stat point, else you'll start to rot. (§) Cannot cast: Sublimation of Blood (on self), Stoneskin, Alter Self, Berserk Rage, Blade Hands, Cure Poison, Dragon Form, Ice Form, Resist Poison, Spider Form, Statue Form, Tame Beasts. Increasing satiation ==================== Vampires feed with blood, which may come from three sources : biting monsters while fighting, biting corpses of slain monsters, drinking potions of blood (or coagulated blood). * Fighting A successful unarmed attack (or armed with a weapon of vampiricism) by a Vampire (even in Bat form) may draw blood from its target. This only happens if you're not Alive, the monster is not summoned, has blood and would produces "clean", "contaminated" or "poisonous" chunks when butchered (the latter only if you're poison resistant). In adition, only Hungry (or less) vampires will drain blood in a stabbing attack. When this happens, you first gain 1d(damage) HP (where damage is the damage done by the attack), capped by your experience level. If this comes from a "clean" monster (which would produce "clean" chunks), 1d(damage) (not capped) is added; the total amount is halved if you're in Bat form. Your satiation level is then increased by 30-89 ("clean" monster) or 15-44 ("contaminated" or "poisonous" monster), amount which will be halved if you're in Bat form. * Corpses After slaying a monster, a Vampire may drain blood from the corpse if it's not rotten and the monster had blood. You'll suck the corpse for several turns (depending on the size of the monster), which will increase your HP and your satiation. You only get the HP bonus from fresh corpses (less than 150 turns after the monster is slain). If that's the case, you heal 1 HP if the monster is "clean" or "contaminated" ; and 50% of the time if it is "mutagen". A human corpse will restore 1 + (xp_level)/3 HP (where xp_level is your experience level). An elven corpse will restore 1 HP and 1d3 MP. The satiation you get from the corpse is 1000, multiplied by the number of potions you'd get from the corpse (1 for most small and medium creatures, 2 or more for larger creatures). This amount is modified as follow: - Human corpses will increase your satiation level by the base amount plus 1d(10*(xp_level)) where xp_level is your experience level. - Elven corpses will increase your satiation level by the base amount plus 1d(10*(xp_level)) where xp_level is your experience level. - Other "clean" corpses (or "Contaminated" with a 67% chance, or "Poisonous" if you're poison resistant) will increase you satiation by the base amount. - "Contaminated" corpses failing the 67 % test will increase your satiation by half the base amount. - "Poisonous" corpses (if you're not poison resistant - be careful not to turn poison susceptible due to your satiation level while eating!) will increase your satiation by half the base amount, and lightly poison you - "Mutagen" corpses will increase your satiation by half the base amount and bring you 1 mutation. - "Rot-inducing" corpses will not feed you and rot you instead. Note that you can butcher corpses to get chunks or skeletons, but you won't be able to drink blood from it * Potions Vampires do not get nutrition from drinking potions, except from potions of (coagulated) blood (or fountains of blood). Drinking a potion of blood will increase your satiation by 1000, a potion of coagulated blood by 800. Unlike corpses, potions of blood won't restore HP. Potions of blood will turn into potions of coagulated blood after 2000 turns, and potions of coagulated blood will rot away after 500 more turns. Level 6+ Vampires can extract potions of blood from corpses. The number of potions extracted from a corpse depends on its size, and their freshness on the freshness of the corpse (the potion will coagulate after 2000 turns minus 10 times the number of turns since the monster was killed).
